Specific admission requirements for the Master’s Degree in Language and Digital Communication

All applicants are either required to be in possession of a C1 level certificate (of the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages - CEFR) of the 2 or 3 languages chosen in accordance to the track selected (English-Spanish-Catalan) or to pass a test certifying this level.

If applicants demonstrate a B2+ in the aforementioned test or provide a certificate accrediting language proficiency at this level, they may be admitted to the Master’s Degree and they will have to take bridging courses.

Accepted certificates to attest language proficiency level:

The certificates accepted will be those that are recognised by the different reference bodies following the language equivalency charts published by these institutions:

English and Spanish: Association of Language Centres in Higher Education (ACLES in Spanish)

Catalan: Direcció General de Política Lingüística

Exemption from submitting a language certificate and taking a placement test:

1. Applicants whose Secondary Education or Baccalaureate studies diploma has been issued in countries or territories where English, Spanish or Catalan are used as a medium of instruction are eligible. For instance, for English, this includes the United States, the United Kingdom…; for Spanish, Spain, Colombia, Ecuador…; for Catalan, Catalonia (in the case of the Valencian Community, the Balearic Islands, and Andorra, proof that Catalan has been the primary language of instruction is required).

2. Applicants holding any of the specific university degrees listed below are eligible:

  • Bachelor’s degrees where the study of the language of the track selected is a core course: English Studies and the like for English; Hispanic Philology and the like for Spanish; Catalan Philology and the like for Catalan.
  • Other degrees, provided it can be demonstrated that applicants have used the language in question for at least 50% of their credits during their studies.

Language level tests:

In the event that applicants are not in possession of a C1 certificate in the language(s) of the track selected or are not exempt from presenting the corresponding certificate(s), they shall still be admitted to the Master’s Degree by passing a level test administered by the programme itself. The validity of this test is limited to internal use and cannot be applied outside it.

If applicants demonstrate a B2+ in the aforementioned test or provide a certificate accrediting language proficiency at this level, they may be admitted to the Master’s Degree and must take bridging courses.

Selection criteria (in cases where demand exceeds the number of seats) for the Master’s Degree in Language and Digital Communication

If the demand exceeds the number of available slots in the Master’s Degree, which is limited to 20, applications will be reviewed by the academic committee of the programme. Applications will be assessed on the basis of the criteria listed below, in the specified order (i.e., the second criterion will only be applied if the number of applicants meeting the first requirement exceeds 20):

  1. Eligible Bachelor degrees: Degrees such as Journalism, Philology or related (e.g., Audio-visual Communication, Marketing, Advertising, Applied Languages, Translation, and Linguistics).
  2. Applicants’ weighted average mark in the Transcript of Records of their Bachelor degree.

Only if demand continues to exceed the number of available seats after applying these two criteria will priority be given to applicants who opt for the track that includes Catalan.

In each enrollment period, applicants holding a degree that is NOT related to those mentioned in the first selection criterion may be admitted to the Master’s Degree if there are vacancies, i.e., slots not filled by applicants holding related degrees.
