Objectives and competences

Objectives

1. We intend to train students in the creation and management of contents adapted to the new digital platforms and social media, taking into account that:

  • The contents will be covered through informative, persuasive and non-fiction texts.
  • Mastery of all types of media (text, audio, video, etc.) for the creation and management of content will be achieved.
  • Students will learn to create communication projects using specific and updated software.

2. We also aim to help students consolidate their plurilingual competence at an expert level (C1+/C2), taking into account that:

  • A variety of skills, namely, comprehension and production of oral and written texts, will be put into practicein two or three of the following languages: Spanish, Catalan and English.
  • Linguistic mediation strategies enabling text transformation will be acquired. These include summarising texts, adapting them to different registers or translating them.
  • Students will learn to use inclusive language, considering gender, culture and identity, as well as other aspects related to social diversity.
  • Students will learn to use a specialised linguistic repertoire specific to the field of digital communication.

 

Learning outcomes

Knowledge

1. Demonste a critical understanding of a wide range of theories, principles and concepts related to digital communication and applied linguistics

2. Discuss on a broad and up-to-date theoretical basis the role of technology in the field of digital communication for processing, elaboing and transmitting information

3. Critically select specialised scientific theories in order to carry out tasks related to discourse analysis in the field of digital communication

Skills

4. Apply specialised theoretical-methodological models in the analysis of digital communication genres and formats in new, imprecise and changing environments

5. Communicate ideas and conclusions clearly and unambiguously, for specific communication purposes, to specialised and non-specialised audiences, and with the help of technological tools.

6. Bring solutions to multimodal communicative practices that may be problematic with regard to language usage or the treatment of diversity, applying a gender perspective

7. Explain any knowledge/information clearly and accuely, orally and in writing, in Catalan, Spanish and a third language, especially English (UdL cross-curricular learning outcome)

8. Use the languages of the master to produce texts (written and spoken) in the field of digital communication at a competent user level (C1+/C2)

9. Exercise the multilingual competence in the third language of the bilingual pathways at a minimum level of independent user (English for Spanish-Catalan, Catalan for English-Spanish; and Spanish for English-Catalan).

10. Exercise language mediation at a competent user level (C1+/C2) with texts in the field of digital communication using the languages of the master.

11. Apply knowledge about discourse and linguistic knowledge in online environments to the development of digital content, applying a gender perspective

12. Evaluate stegic communication projects by identifying areas for improvement in terms of possible technological and communicative alternatives, applying a gender perspective

13. Apply digital technologies (when necessary) in their field of knowledge in the chosen languages (transversal learning outcome of the UdL)

14. Solve problems in the creation and dissemination of digital content in a stegic and creative way, opeing effectively with specific and current software

15. Plan and execute research projects in the field of digital communication designed for new, changing, and/or complex environments, demonsting a comprehensive understanding of theoretical frameworks in this field and in applied linguistics

16. Assess the feasibility of transferring research results to professional environments in the field of digital communication

17. Solve complex situations by applying, at the corresponding level, linguistic reflection, creativity, planning and time management

18. Demonste a high level of interpersonal skills found in academic or profesional contexts, such as initiative and effective management of interactions (turn-taking, …), and language adequacy

19. Design efficient and original interventions from the detection of complex needs in real digital communication projects

20. Apply the knowledge and tools related to mediation and management of linguistic diversity in a multilingual professional environment with complex communicative situations

21. Propose innovative, creative and entrepreneurial solutions specific to professional fields (UdL cross-curricular learning outcome)

22. Evaluate the sustainability and social impact of the suggestions developed with ethical, environmental and professional responsibility (UdL cross-curricular learning outcome)
